Finished Post Production - Completed music video

FINISHED MUSIC VIDEO

During some free time we had, we finally finished editing our music video. We took on board all of the feedback we received and we believe that we made those changes, making our whole music video look better and have an ongoing theme and settings and locations which we go back to. We think that it made more sense to revisit all of the locations we had included earlier in our music video because it showed that we didn't forget about our previous shots and it made the whole video come to a nice climax and a clear ending.

We still had some gaps which we needed to fill and we realised that there were a lot of shots from the early bedroom scenes which we hadn't used yet, which we then incorporated into our video, filling up some of the gaps we had. The music and visuals often match and they both arrive at the crescendo successfully, in an interesting way.

We needed to improve the text as we were told that it was too big and that we needed to rethink the positioning. We used the same font and colour because we had positive feedback on both and we thought that it successfully represented our genre and artist. We moved a lot of the text to the bottom middle of the shots, keeping them looking important but also so they're not overly loud and big, taking up the whole screen. The font placement and sizing is a lot better now, because it compliments the visuals and doesn't create much of a distraction. It also looks good because in some of shots we also had our artist singing along to the lyrics.

We really paid attention to the feedback we received as we removed all of the shots which we were told didn't work. For example, some shots were edited too brightly and some of them were not on for long enough. We corrected these parts and believe that it looks a lot better and a lot more professional.

We are extremely happy with how the music video looks and proud of our work.

Unfinished Music video

This is the unfinished version of our music video which we had to show to both students and teachers to get their opinions and to see what we had to do to improve it. The feedback we got was positive and we were told that there were only a few things we should do to improve.

   

Journal - Post-production

After we completed our second day of shooting, we then had to convert our files which we did and we then imported them into our Final Cut Pro file and put them onto the timeline ready for us to edit and make it fit in with our music. We've never really struggled when we needed to edit but when we needed learn a new technique we would research it on the internet and teach ourselves.

Journal - Photos from London for music video

These are some photos we took on the day of shooting the rest of our video. We've decided that we're going to use most of these photos to fill in the gaps and match the beats of the song. 

Journal - Production in London Day 2

These are some of the shots we got from London. They show the shots we used, not including the bus one because we wrongly placed our camera and tripod when we first started to film a clip for our time lapse.

Here is the shot of the bus coming into shot and not leaving. We then had to move over to the other side of the road in order to get the shot we needed. We realised our problem and we made sure that we were not behind a bus stop on the other side of the road. We later sped up the clip and made it a time lapse, I think that it looks really cool and even though it's a fairly long shot, it doesn't get boring.

 We used the studio background in some shots for our music video and then when we put them into Final Cut Pro, we realised that they looked extremely plain and clean, we wanted to give them some sort of effect so we used a video filter called an Eight-Point Garbage Matte in order to get a circular shadow around our artist whilst she is performing the song.

Journal - Planning more last minute video ideas

The following is me and Kerry discussing some ideas for the rest of our video. We knew that we still had to film the end of our music video, and we also had to get all of the shots for the outside London part of the video. 

This conversation shows us brainstorming ideas and getting excited for bringing it all together and will eventually get around to filming it and experimenting with our ideas. We said that we'd fill the ending with shots of the group in London, having fun. We said that we were going to have loads of photos and quick shots of her with the friends. We knew that a lot of the song had to be our artist miming the song and we liked that and decided to get some shots of her singing in the same place and go back to them when we needed. There was never really much change from our storyboards give or take a few shots and the ending so we already knew what we still had to do such as group shots and long exposure/time lapse.

Journal - More music video shooting

Today we decided to do a shoot which consisted of just Kerry singing along to the song in order for us to us later on when we need small clips of our artist singing along with the song. We made up a whole set and used a background and lights to make a clear shot. 

These are some of the shots I took whilst we were setting up. 

The photo below are what it all looked like once we finished setting up the lights in the correct place to avoid any shadowing.

Journal - Production in London Day 1

We began shooting the London part of our music video today. We brought our props, storyboards and camera and tripod. We knew that we definitely wanted to get the arcade shots done today and we wanted to at least get all of the inside shots done, which included a photo booth opportunity and a train station shot. It took us all day to do as much as we could, from 9am to 5pm and unfortunately we were unable to get all of the London shots in one day due to weather conditions. However, we were able to complete our goal and get all of the inside shots done. Overall, these did seem like the harder shots to get as we ran the risk of being kicked out of the arcade and that the shots wouldn't look good, and we would then have to think of a different idea. I think that our clips look really good but we are still yet to put them to music and edit them down on Final Cut Pro, so we may have to change them if the pacing isn't right.

And this is the photo booth shot which we used more of than we originally thought because it looked so good.

All of the following shots are from inside the arcade. We made sure to get a variety of different shots and angles on all different kinds of arcade games etc. I think that this makes our artist and group of friends look really youthful and as if they are having fun, which is a key element for our music video.

However, due to weather conditions we were unable to complete the London shooting in one day as we wanted a lot of establishing shots of London and also some shots of our artist singing outside. We plan to do the second day of shooting as soon as possible.

Journal - Location test shots

We decided that it would be wise to test out where we wanted to shoot our video. We knew that we wanted bright lights and for it to look like a fair of some sort and we wanted it to look youthful and fun. We went to Winter Wonderland at the weekend and took some test shots to see how it would look for the video we plan to shoot in a week's time. Although we saw that it was quite Christmassy and more festive than we planned, which we aren't too keen on. We planned for our video to be fun and youthful rather than based around Christmas. It's not a Christmas song at all so we can't make it look too festive.

Music video: Post Production - Part 1

This is a prezi showing how we found editing our music video so far and it includes the challenges we faced and also new skills we have learned. It explains why and how we made certain choices and have done what we have. It also vaguely explains what we plan to do next.

Journal - Video clips

In today's media lesson we began and finished converting our video files so that they would be usable on Final Cut Pro. This is a skill we have learned in the past and we knew how to do it correctly and quickly.

The photos above are all of our video files from the first shoot, some shots took a long time to get right (as you can see in the multiple same shots) but we converted them all just in case we needed extra footage.

Music Video shooting - Part One

Today we filmed the inside shots of our music video. We took some photos on set to show on our blogs to explain our decisions. 

This is where we shot most of the clips for our video. It is in my bedroom, mainly on my bed. We wanted these shots to be very intimate with the audience and let them see our artist in her room, in a place she feels comfortable. I also think it adds to the indie element of our artist's image because it really shows how independent she is and how she likes to stay inside on her own sometimes. Also the use of white and stylish bed frame can contribute to that image. We chose to open the curtains to give more light to have a better contrast clip overall.

This is a photo of me trying to do some of the writing shots of our video. We had a clear idea to write "Isla Harris" and "Youth Knows No Pain" and to then overlap them with other shots. However, these shots came out extremely bad due to both of our handwritings not being good enough for our standards. Looking back, we should have practised more and used a better pen and thought more about materials and framing. We decided to forget the idea of having writing in our video, or if we did to get someone else to do it for us.
